5 free live surf cams tracked in Massachusetts
Massachusetts' Atlantic coastline runs from the rockier North Shore down through Boston Harbor to the sandier beaches of Cape Cod and the islands of Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard. It's classic cold-water New England surf: nor'easters and fall hurricane remnants produce the best and most consistent swell, and a wetsuit is a year-round necessity.
Real NOAA buoy data shows offshore swell typically peaking around February (averaging roughly 4.7 ft) and easing to its calmest around July (roughly 2.3 ft).
Water ranges from roughly 38°F in the coldest month to 63°F in the warmest. In the coldest stretch, a thick wetsuit (5/4mm or a semi-dry suit) with boots, gloves, and a hood is standard; by the warmest month, a 3/2mm wetsuit is the standard choice.
Of Massachusetts' 5 tracked cams, 5 are beach breaks — generally the most beginner/longboard-friendly wave type.
The core etiquette rules are the same on every coast: the surfer closest to the peak has right of way, don't drop in on a rider already up, and take a few minutes to watch how a lineup is working before paddling out if you're new to a spot. See each spot's own page for etiquette notes specific to its break type.
